Moving into a Condo
1. Check with the condo association or building staff for move in procedures in advance of your anticipated moving date. Buildings will have different rules governing move in and move out procedures, and it is important to find out the rules before you have a moving truck show up to unload.
2. If there is a service elevator, you may have to reserve it ahead of time to ensure your move in occurs smoothly. Don’t set a date for the movers to unload until you have determined if the elevator is available.
3. Some condo associations will charge a move in fee and/or a move in deposit to cover their costs and ensure against damage to any common areas.
4. If you were living in a larger home, be sure to downsize before packing your possessions. If you can’t downsize, consider putting some of your possessions in a storage unit for a short time before moving them in. You’ll enjoy living in your new condo much more if you aren’t living amidst stacked boxes.
5. If you plan on renovating, painting, or cleaning the condo shortly after purchase, it is probably best to have these items done before you move in if at all possible.
